SATYA SURABHI

My School Satya Surabhi (recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu) was founded in 1999 by Padmini and Ram Mani, with a motive to provide quality and value based education to children of farm labourers, petty vendors and the underprivileged members of the community, regardless of caste, religion or gender. It saw its beginnings with an initial enrolment of 20 students. Within a span of seven years, the school has grown to a strength of over 100 children between the ages of three and eleven years. The Education Dept. of the Government of Tamilnadu, Dindugal district, has chosen this as a model school among the forty schools they had surveyed in the year 2005.

AMIDST NATURE
Nestled in the verdant Attuvampatti valley of the Palani hills, My School Satya Surabhi is housed in Padmini and Ram's residential compound, 7 km from the hill town of Kodaikanal. The school which operates out of a temporary shed, is well lit and colourful. Guided by their teachers, the children take advantage of the fine surroundings, studying and playing in the spacious gardens under the skies.

ETHOS AND CURRICULUM
The unique feature of this school is that it imparts education in English and Tamil, making the child adept in both the languages. The school seeks to inculcate, in addition to academics, universal values of kindness, truth, creativity and a love of nature – to develop in the children sensitivity for fellow beings and the environment. My School believes in the holistic approach; keeping this perspective in view, we have computers, yoga, nature appreciation, music, drama, hygiene, civic awareness, sports such as cricket, football and karate – as part of the school's curriculum. Occasionally, volunteers help with the various activities of the school. We also have initiated literacy classes for local women – our conviction being that when you educate a woman, essentially, you educate the whole family.

AMENITIES
Thanks to our donors and well wishers, our library books and teaching materials is ever expanding. Two small playgrounds allow the students to stretch their wings. There are swings and other play equipment for the little ones also. Medical camps and health checkups are a regular feature of the school's program. Free balanced noon meals are provided.

AN APPEAL
My School is a secular non-profit educational institution managed by the Satya Surabhi Trust (Regd)., which was formed in the year 2002 to give it a public identity.
